Monthly Look-Ahead: JULY

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Another month has whizzed by, and my brain has exploded with it. This year is going insanely quickly, and we’re already over half way through the year! HOW?! Anyways, obviously this calls for a Monthly Look-Ahead! Unlike other months, however, I already have a bunch of ideas, and I can tell this post is going to be quite long! Grab a snack, and enjoooooy! 😀

First and foremost, the one-year anniversary of my blog is in July, although it’s pretty much at the end… I haven’t yet planned how I’ll celebrate it, but maybe you have some ideas? I’ll save the cheesy writing for then, though, so you don’t have to deal with it in this post!

School Holidays

If you’re in America, then you’ll already be off school, right? Well, for us Brits, we have school right through to mid July. Usually it’s around the 17th that we end up leaving for the Summer holidays. Anyways, I can’t wait for that time to finally come, where I can sleep in every morning, and not have to worry about homework!

Getting Back Organised

As I mentioned in a previous post, A Fresh Start, I’ll be trying to get back on top of my blog, and making sure I A) get posts up on time and B) make sure that I read the posts in my reader. The Summer makes that a lot easier, because lately, school has definitely been getting in the way! I can’t wait! I was also thinking about starting a Summer series for my blog, but I’m not too sure yet. Let me know what you think!

Travel Day

At our school, we have an annual travel day, where every year group get on a coach (not all on one, obviously) and head out to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Being the rollercoaster fanatic that I am, this is one of my favourite days of the year, beside the awkward experience I had in year 7 when I had no friends… ANYWAYS, I’m super excited for that!

Lakota’s Birthday

If you don’t already know, I have a big sister – Lakota. Well, not really Lakota because that’s her codename on here… You get the idea. Anyway, It’ll be her 20th birthday next month, and a birthday is always something to look forward to, right? Although, fun fact: I don’t like my own birthday. It’s probably because I’m quite the introvert and don’t like all the attention being right on me… Hence why I prefer Christmas – or other peoples’ birthdays!

Very little (or no) Homework

The time of year has finally arrived, where teachers at last start to slack off a little, and let loose, rarely setting homework. Again, this means for more time doing whatever the hell I feel like doing, and getting more blog posts up and running! Actually, that time seems to have already started, because I’ve only had one or two homeworks to do over the last week…EXCITING!

Guitar Exam Results

As I write this post, I have yet to take this exam. However, I am currently on a break from practicing. Tomorrow will be my Grade 5 in guitar and yep, I’m starting to freak out  a little. By the time you’re reading this, I’ll have done the exam, and will probably be awaiting results, which is always the worst part! I’ll add in a little update on this post once I’ve done the exam.

UPDATE: I’ve done the exam. I guess it could have been worse… The pieces (songs) went  well, other than a slight muck-up at the very beginning of one of them. Scales were fine. Musical knowledge was alright-ish and Sight Reading was disastrous – but I already knew that would happen. I don’t think it will be quite top marks, or as good as my last, but I should have passed. I’ll let you know when I find out!

The Secret Life of Pets

So, the creators of Despicable Me have made another film, not related to the minions, as far as I know. Basically, it’s about what pets do when you aren’t at home. Since I’m both a Despicable Me and animal lover, it’s only logical for me to watch this film when I get the chance. I was thinking about maybe asking Bob if he’s up for an adventure to the cinema… We’ll see!

And there we have most of the things I’m hyped about for July! What are you looking forward to? Also, what are your thoughts on a Summer series?

Revision: Expectation VS Reality

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Trying something new sounded like an interesting idea at the moment. I have a bunch of ideas today, so a lot of the next few posts will have all been written pretty much at the same time. If you haven’t already guessed, today’s post is going to be about revising, since most of us are done with that hellish madness for the year, and we can look back to remember just how much fun we had. Sarcasm detector says BEEEEEEEP!

Okay so after that painfully long intro, I think it’s about time we got into the post.

Power revision with a bunch of colourful rhythmic notes and being able to remember everything in the whole exam thanks to that music.

Getting distracted by the music when your jam comes on, and becoming Taylor Swift in the You Belong With Me video….

Very organised scheduling and never missing a single slot for revision.

Losing the timetable, forgetting that it exists, refusing to obey it and just doing whatever you like because that’s how you roll.

Frills and cute bubble writing, that will be super easy in the exam for remembering.

It looks like someone squished a spider in the notebook…

revision reality.jpg

“I’m going to make sure I go out to meet my friends every now and then so that I get some fresh air and don’t go insane!”

Emerges from bedroom only to get food, looking like a mad scientist that hasn’t slept in 500 years

mad scientist.jpg

Hearing that it’s genuinely helpful to drink water and stay healthy while you’re revising or actually sitting your exam, so you drink water, duh.

Exam week becomes the one week where you, for some random reason, forget to eat, sleep, drink and probably breathe.

Strolling into the school library with another 30 minutes to recap the notes one last time.

*Breaks out into Ariana Grande*

It rains. The bus is late. You probably crash into people on the way to school because you’re trying to see what the hell that word says on your raindrop smudged revision notes.

Oh god everything is going to fall to pieces and I’m going to fail and die.

YOU’LL BE FINNNNNEEEE, you revised, remember? Just breathe!

That’s everything that I thought of for this post! Let me know if you could relate to any of them! I hope you enjoyed reading this, since it’s a different kind of post to normal, as well as my experimenting with coloured fonts 😀

To end the post, I wanted to give a little shout-out to anyone waiting for exam results, whether it be GCSE, A level, Degree or anything else. You’ll be fine! And know that whatever happens, keep this in mind, it’s one of my favourite quotes.

“Sometimes you need to fall before you can fly.”

And for anyone who might be slightly religious, Britt sent me a quote the other day, and I really loved it.

When God pushes you off a cliff of worries, he’ll either catch you when you fall, or he’ll teach you how to fly.”

A Fresh Start

I’m Just Average Teen Me. As you may have noticed, the layout for my blog has changed completely, and I’ve gotten myself a new profile picture slash logo. Why, you might ask? Well, that’s what this post is for!

Lingonberry had been my theme since I started my blog, almost a year ago, and I figured with it being Summer, when’s a better time to switch things up? So I went ahead and customised myself  a new theme, and created a new little logo. I love both of them, especially the logo, with the pink waters!

I was thinking aside from being a nice summery start to the summer, they could be a sort of symbol, of starting over. Without deleting any posts, don’t worry. Lately, I’ve realised that I haven’t been paying much attention to my blog, or anyone else’s for that matter.

I want to change that.

These new things in my blog are a promise that I will try my hardest to read all of the posts in my reader, and fully commit myself to my this blog and all the people I follow.

Here’s to an awesome summer!

I’m Just Average Teen Me. A couple of days ago, I tweeted about a certain experience I had on Monday, and I thought it would be fun to let you all know what went on.

Let’s set the scene, then. It was in the afternoon, at school, in a library/classroom, and we were planning a role play/drama thing that everyone had to do in groups of about seven or eight. I was with Britt, and a bunch of guys from our year. Why were we with the guys? Well, there were too many groups, so our group got split into the others. Thankfully, I still had Brittany.

Since Britt and I don’t like acting, or being in front of a lot of people (there were about 35 other people, excluding our group), the guys assigned us to ‘atmosphere roles’, which basically meant walking around so it didn’t look like they were stranded in the middle of nowhere. While they were planning out their roles, we talked about the girly stuff that girls talk about and whatnot.

A couple of minutes in, one of the guys, let’s call him Noah, came and joined us, in our little corner beside a bookshelf. Apparently he’d been assigned to ‘atmosphere role number three’. Britt stood there awkwardly, because frankly, we didn’t want anyone else knowing about what we were just discussing. Well, not any guys for that matter.

After an awkward silence, I said something along the lines of

“You’ll be third wheeling us, then.” And his reply was

“No, Brittany will be third wheeling us!” Yeah…. Not subtle at all… I ended up looking to Britt, who was looking at me. We both raised our eyebrows synchronised, which is something we seem to do quite often, and I looked back to Noah saying something along the lines of “Alright then”. At this point, I was probably too shocked to completely commit myself to the conversation, so what he said next didn’t quite sink in, but I definitely heard him say “attempt at flirting” and laughing. By then, I had zero clue if he was actually being serious or not, and still, I have no idea. I haven’t brought it up to Britt, because I’m not sure if she even remembers.

After then, there was a good bit of intense eye contact when he was explaining what was going on, which kind of made me feel like he was drilling a hole into my head, so I looked away every now and then.

As far as my own flirting goes, well, it’s not very far. I find myself laughing at a lot of stuff, accidentally to people that I don’t even crush on… As for the person at school that I do have a slight crush on, he’s only ever said one word to me, which was “Sorry” as he was squeezing by me. But that’s only because he’s in the year above me… and has a girlfriend.

HOWEVER, I am pretty much certain that myself and a specific celebrity are soulmates aaaand one day we’re going to get married, so it’s kind of difficult to flirt with him at the moment! 😀

What are some of your experiences??

Unnecessary Slutshaming | Feminism #2

I’m Just Average Teen Me. I plan on this post being a little shorter than normal, but since it’s a debatable topic, I’m hoping a lot of it can be in the comments.

As I write this, it’s 23rd June 2016, release date of Fifth Harmony’s ‘All in my Head’ music video. For those of you that don’t already know, I’m a fairly big 5H fan. After watching the video (which was amazing, by the way – what else is to expect?) I was thinking about how much the girls SLAYED throughout the whole entire video. So, I sent a few screenshots of it to a couple of my friends. Mainly Camila, and captioned it:

“Can we talk about Camila slaying everything in the new video? <3”

The response disgusted me. And to think that these are my friends is even worse. Before I get into it, I might just put in a screenshot here:

As you can see, she’s on a beach. A BEACH. And she’s wearing beach appropriate clothes. I take that back – She’s ROCKING beach appropriate clothes.

Anyway, within a minute of sending them, Penny replied with:

“Eew… She looks like a slut. Like that pic? No no no.” And Brittany replied to those with “Lol”. Some of you might think I’m overreacting, but I was horrified with that. Are girls not allowed to show skin? Can they not wear clothes that they look and feel beautiful in? Even somewhere like a beach?

I thought that from people who are also girls, and feminists at that, they should respond much more positively. Or at least respectfully. Nobody should be treated like that. After 10 minutes of me quite clearly ignoring them (it’s WhatsApp so they probably saw that I’d seen it) Penny decided to acknowledge it. With this:

“Sorry for calling her a slut. I just don’t think she looks very pretty tbh” It’s safe to say, I still think that what she said was terribly wrong, but I told her – rather smugly – that the apology was accepted.

Nobody should be called a slut, for dressing how they want. It’s ridiculous.

For anyone who’s interested in watching the video, here’s the YouTube link:

Make sure to add to the discussion in the comments and share any experiences or opinions you might have! Thanks for reading!

44 Summer Things!

I’m Just Average Teen Me. If you haven’t already realised, it’s the first day of Summer today, and as much as Summer is probably my least favourite season, I thought it would be fun to do a post about it. And what post, you might ask? Well, if you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know that sometimes, I do posts where I’ll list 44 things to do with a certain topic. In the past, I’ve done Teenage Girls, Primary School, Childhood – you get the idea. If you’re interested in reading any of those, you could click the search bar in the blue menu thing and type 44!

So, if you haven’t finally caught on, and for some reason didn’t read the title, today, I will be writing 44 Summer things!

  1. Barbeques everywhere!
  2. Little kids in paddling pools
  3. Suncream, also everywhere!
  4. Was that a bee?
  5. Heaven forbid there’s a bee in the classroom!
  6. ICE CREAM ❤
  7. School holidays!
  8. Being able to spend every single day, knowing that you have no homework to catch up on
  9. Trying to decide if you already count as the next year up in school
  10. Teachers finally cutting some slack and laying off the work
  11. Results, RESULTS, RESULTS
  12. Staying inside because you’re actually a vampire and you die in the sun – or sparkle. If I sparkled, I think I’d be outside all the time. However, I don’t sparkle, I just blind people because my skin is so pale it reflects all light. 😀
  13. Lighter hair, finally!
  14. Half way to Christmas again!
  15. Promising to meet up with your friends all the time… and never seeing them once.
  16. School trips! We’re going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach (by far one of my favourite places)
  17. School sports day. -.- Kill me
  19. Sweating off the makeup in your T-zone 😦
  20. Sweating in general
  21. Suddenly becoming strangely hyper and laughing all lesson about the most inappropriate things
  22. Opening a window, and 5 million flies come in within a space of 10 minutes. One flew up my shirt the other day, and it’s safe to say, I nearly had a heart attack when it flew out!
  23. No Once Upon A Time until September :O
  24. Trying to be cool and taking a good picture on your phone but then remembering your phone has the literal worst camera in the whole world.
  25. Water balloon fights
  26. Forgetting how to use a pen
  27. Ice in every drink that can possibly be acceptable to drink with ice.
  28. Not being able to sleep without covers so you die of heat in your sleep
  29. “What day is it?”
  30. Girls that wear shorts that barely even cover them up. Just no…
  31. Actually spending your whole Summer on tumblr
  32. Summery songs everywherrrrrrree!
  33. Chugging as much water as possible
  34. Watching films in class and wondering why you’re even there
  35. Getting bored and starting a blog (fun fact: that’s why I started)
  36. Are black jeans too depressing for summer? Scrap that I’m wearing a black shirt too!
  37. Shopping for school supplies
  38. Forever wishing you had a candle that smells like sand
  40. Singing into a fan and suddenly becoming Beyoncé
  41. Olympics!
  42. Going blind and needing to wear sunglasses at all times because your eyes are reaaaaaaaaaallly light sensitive
  43. Burning all over because for some reason you’re incapable of tanning
  44. Or tanning and looking all golden because you’re very lucky ;D

That’s 44 things about Summer! Hopefully, you could relate to some of them! Let me know if you did, and which ones were your favourites.

Just Average Teen Me

Posted in favourites

I’m Just Average Teen Me. First of all, if I come off as irritated or lazy in this post, it’s because I wrote it days ago, and my WiFi hasn’t worked since. I’m guessing it’s because of that, but the post isn’t even in my drafts… Not to mention the stuffy nose and cough I’ve been dealing with lately. 😦

Sorry about that, I’ll try as hard as I can to make this post as similar and entertaining as the first version…

So, a few things in this post will be revision related, with it having been exam season and all.

Handy Notepads

In early May when I was doing most of my revision, these were out constantly. I bought two of them at the start of the school year: one in pink, and another in purple, from Tesco if you’re wondering. If you’re looking for a good quality, supermarket notepad, I definitely recommend these, if they’re even still in stock at this time of year…. If not, I saw some really nice ones in BnM Bargains! Anyways, I’ve been using those a loooot this month! 😀

Gel Pens

On the topic of revision, I’m the kind of person who likes to visualise things when I’m trying to remember them during a test. I’ve found that the best way to do that is through colour coding everything. I code the different types of plate margins, types of R.E. questions, you name it! So, as you can imagine, I was slightly worried when my fine liners (If you don’t have any, I really recommend getting some of these too!)  ran out… until I found my several year old pencil case filled with every coloured gel pen you can imagine. Aside from the smudging, these worked just as well! And everyone knows, if you have gel pens you’re winning at life! 😉

Recently, I’ve been rewatching the BBC Series Sherlock. If you’re a Sherlock fan, you’ll know that it’s been years since season three, and probably understand how it feels to have to wait all that time. During the hiatus, I’ve re-watched the whole thing several times, which really doesn’t take long since there are only three episodes in every season. Anyways, even hearing the soundtrack made me realise how much I’d missed Sherlock for the last 3 or 4 months where I hadn’t watched it. I’d missed Moriarty, too.

*Prays that there’s a Sherlock fan out there who understood that pun* But really, Moriarty is one of the reasons I watch Sherlock in the first place. 😀

7/27 Fifth Harmony

I’m not sure if I mentioned it in my last favourites post, but I’ve been loving 5H’s music lately, as of about April. If you’re a fan of them too, you’ll know that their album, 7/27 was released late in May. I downloaded it the day it came out and fell in love with every track. Apart from the early releases: Work from Home (one of my favourites ever), Write on Me and The Life, my favourite newer songs are I Lied and Scared of Happy. I absolutely love the vibe of all the new songs, and can’t wait to listen to them all Summer!

Once Upon a Time Season 5

Back to TV shows again! Some of you may already know – who am I kidding, all of you probably know by now – about my slight obsession with OUAT. If any of you guys are up to date with it, you’ll know that the season finale aired in May. IT WAS AMAZING AND THE PLOT TWISTS AND NEW CHARACTERS AND RUMBELLE! Basically, it’s a slight overload on my emotions, but not as much as the several month wait we have until season 6.

Also can we just talk about Lea Michele and Dean Geyer’s harmonies? Totally of topic, but I just ended up on their cover of Give Your Heart a Break…

Stack – Ketchapp

Although I deleted this app to make room for others, that was in this month. In May, I loved it. If you’re a fan of quick arcade games to play while you’re on the bus, I really suggest checking out a few ketchapp apps if you haven’t already! I played this one for days and days when I was on the bus!

That’s everything I can remember from the first time I wrote this! I hope you enjoyed reading! Make sure to let me know what you’ve been loving last month!

Monthly Look Ahead: June

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Yes, I have made it back to my blog on time! What a shocker! Another shocker: We’re in June. June. It feels like a couple weeks ago that I was writing my February look ahead! Off the top of my head, I’m not completely sure what’ll end up in this post, but hey, let’s see!

Summery Food

If you knew me, you’d know that I don’t really like Summer, and that I much prefer the cold. I’m still in denial that it’s actually warming up, and am currently sitting here in my long sleeved Hogwarts shirt and full length skinny jeans. Clearly, I’m not one for Summery clothes. But I am definitely one for Summery FOOOOOOD! Over the school holidays (half term, which is 1 week for those of you in other countries), I’ve had several barbeques, and loved every single one of them! I’m a huge fan of burgers and have probably become slightly unhealthy due to eating so many 😉

Lighter Hair

No, I’m not dying my hair. The colour of my hair is kind of awkward to describe, but it’s somewhat blonde. In Summer, the sun enhances (I guess you could say) the blonde in it, and I just prefer it to what it normally is. It seems to suit me a little better too.

Getting my Braces Off!

After several reschedules, I am finally going to have my braces off! When the time comes, I might do a little post about it to let you know how it’s going! In one word, I would probably describe my emotions as ‘Terrified’ because I’ve had braces since about October of 2013. It’s almost been three whole years. For someone who isn’t a massive fan of change, it’s scary to think of not having these metal wires and brackets on my teeth. Of course, I’ll have a retainer during the night, too. If any of you guys have had any experience with braces, let me know in the comments! 😀

Guitar Exam

Something that a lot of you probably don’t know, is that I play guitar. I have lessons, and do exams. In the last week of June, I’ll have my Grade 5. For those of you who don’t understand music grading, I’ll give you a little explanation. Basically, you start on Grade 1, and work your way up to Grade 8. Each Grade typically takes around a year (give or take depending on how quick a learner you are, and how much you practice). During the exam, you play three music pieces and have to perform several scales (up and down the notes in rather pesky orders) and then a few other music knowledge stuff. I’ve been working on this one for just under a year, so it’ll be nice to get it over and done with (crossed fingers I keep up the standard of my Grade 4 results!)

Exploring the Realms of Tumblr

Recently, I installed the app for Tumblr. I’ve had an account for quite a while, actually, but never used it because I can’t be bothered signing in, and I didn’t really understand the computer layout. Both of those problems have been eliminated now, though, since I don’t have to sign in every time, and then because I do understand the phone layout. Unfortunately to some, I can’t give away my username, because that would kind of be leaking my identity, which kind of ruins the point of being anonymous.

That’s the main things I could think of! What are you excited for this June?

Thank you SO much for reading! Make sure to like and follow if you like my blog and leave any thoughts or suggestions in the comments!

An Apology

I’m Just Average Teen Me. As a lot of you will have probably noticed, I haven’t been blogging for quite a while. I’m not actually sure when I did my most recent post, but I know that it definitely wasn’t too recently.

Since exams, I kind of got into the habit of not posting, and I haven’t quite got out of it yet. I’d say I’ve been busy over the holidays but I haven’t. Most of it has been spent playing sims, watching YouTube or wandering around Tumblr. My family have been upstairs quite a lot which makes blogging quite difficult with this whole anonymous thing I have going on.

I don’t like doing posts like this because I feel like it’s kind of depressing, and shows me as a lazy person that might not care. I do care. And I’m one of the least lazy people – I promise. I’m usually organised and ready early. Lately I’ve had a lack of inspiration and ideas for what to put in my posts, though.

During my little hiatus, I wondered if people would notice if I never blogged again and just left my blog as it was this morning, without this post and the ones to come in the future. But then I remembered that I need the blogging community. You all have helped me get through a bunch of stuff, and it hasn’t even been a year yet. I know there’ll be much more I want to share with you all and much more you can share with me!

I have missed blogging.

I just don’t realise until I’m back. ❤

I’ll see you again in the near future, either tomorrow or the day after.

Thank you so much for reading
