Bring On 2017

I’m Just Average Teen Me. At this point, it’s already 2017 in some areas in the eastern hemisphere, and it’s slowly nearing for the rest of the world, including myself and the rest of the UK.

2016 has definitely been a rollercoaster, and while some pretty terrible things have happened globally, I’ve had an amazing year, excluding a few sticky situations.

It’s been the first year in several years that I genuinely feel happy with the friends I’ve been spending my time with. I did well in last school year’s exams and I’ve been pretty healthy, as far as staying hydrated goes.

Last year I made some resolutions, and I thought it’d be interesting to look back on them to see which ones I actually kept – and which ones I blatantly ignored.

Keep up to my blog schedule!

Ha.ha. Not so much, but I tried.

Drink More Water

This one, I actually did. It’s come with a bunch of benefits and I’m really glad I did!

Be More Active

Wellllllll…. I started off the year with a little bit of a workout routine, then around March ish I was trying to plank for ages, and beat the night before. After then, I established a routine that I did along to music. Round about August, I stopped with that… Not sure why, but I did. I have been walking the dog a lot though!

Meet up With Bob More

Yeah, this really didn’t happen. I only met up with him once. 😦

Forgive and Forget

Although this was definitely emotionally demanding, I would say that I have forgiven Regina. Now that I look back on it, it hasn’t made too much of a difference to my current life, aside from giving me my first panic attack, which was bound to happen at some point anyway. ❤

Learn to Lucid Dream!

I really tried to get this one. For so so long. But I couldn’t seem to get the hang of it. I managed to have two lucid dreams, but nothing else.

I don’t think I’ll be doing resolutions this year, although I want to do a little look back on 2016.

2016… Where do we begin. So. Eventful.

The first year where I really felt at home with the people I’ve been friends with. The first year where I told people big secrets. Where crushes ruled my life at points, especially the five months where I was convinced I’d marry a certain celebrity.

I’ve grown so much, although definitely not physically (I haven’t grown in years, physically) and learned so many new lessons from experiences that I’ve never dealt with before. I’ve felt independent while being the least lonely I’ve ever been. I’ve pushed limits and tried my hardest to step out of my comfort zone with simple things like flirting, going out into town with friends more often, taking risks (even if it’s just fluking a small test) and trying to really find myself.

Thanks to specific people, being Ashley, Britt and Penny, I’ve become a slightly different person to who I was last December, although it’s only been a short time.

You’ve been hard 2016, but you’ve taught us a whole lot. Thank you. ❤

See You Next Year, Blogmas + What I Got For Christmas 2016

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Christmas Day has passed, which is obviously a little heartbreaking, but it also means that Blogmas has come to a close too. I really enjoyed getting into the festive spirit here on the blog, and hopefully, you all enjoyed reading them just as much! Thanks a bunch for being supportive of the posts!

So, onto today’s post. Since Christmas was just two days ago, I thought I’d share some of the things I got for Christmas. It might strike you that I’m not the most stereotypical teenage girl (if you hadn’t already got that), so I won’t be rambling about eye-shadow palettes and fancy new shoes.

Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit

Although my Harry Potter obsession has died down a slight bit over the last seven years, I still do, and will always love it. I don’t think there’s been a year since my love for the stories began that I haven’t had something related to Harry Potter for Christmas. Anyways, I’m super excited to play this, especially with Rachel, who’s the biggest Hazza P. fan I know.

A Box of ‘Girly’ Stuff

So, I think this is the point where my mum has no idea what to buy, so she just throws some bits and pieces into a tin. Inside was some pocket tissues, nail polish, ‘spot zapping gel’, stick concealer and a peel-off Cucumber face mask (which I have used before, and I absolutely loooooove).

Moto E3

My phone was slowly dying, and the contract ended this Christmas anyway, so I kind of knew that I’d be getting this phone, and had chosen it between the two options I had. It’s the third generation of the previous phone I had, which was the first generation, and there’s definitely been some improvements! It also came with some big, over-ear headphones which is nice! 😀

OUAT Season 5 DVD

You’ll more than likely know that I’m a huge fan of OUAT (Once Upon A Time), and I currently have all of the seasons available on DVD. If you have spare time over the holidays, I definitely recommend checking it out! 😉

Infinity Rises and Infinity Reborn – S.Harrison

In March, I was given the first book of the Infinity trilogy for my birthday. The plot had me hooked throughout, and I contemplated buying the next books with my own money, which is pretty big since I hate spending it unless I need to. I ended up waiting until Christmas, and I’m so freaking excited to read the last two books!

Fifth Harmony 7/27 UK Tour Poster

I’m not sure this counts as a poster, since it’s cardboard, but it has a picture of the 7/27 album cover, with all of the UK tour dates beneath, the whole thing surrounded by a thick black border. It’s pretty niiiiice, and I just need to put it up on my wall!

A Truckload of Chocolate

Over the entire Christmas holidays, I’ve been given insane amounts of chocolate, and I worked out yesterday, that in the last 4 days, I’ve eaten over 3000 calories of just Lindt Lindors, excluding any other chocolate! Talk about food coma! 😀

Mermaid Tail Blanket

You might remember that this was on my Christmas list this year. It’s basically a woolly blanket in the shape of a mermaid tail, so you put your legs inside, and feel like a mermaid. Mine is a blue/turquoise colour with hints of green, white and orange, and it’s super pretty! 😀

As Grandma always does, she bought us a few sets of pyjamas for the next year. I will admit, she allowed us to choose them ourselves, so I went to Primark with two of my sisters (one older and one younger) and picked out three sets. I prefer it that way because I knew that I’d love them! ❤

That’s most of it! What did you get for Christmas?

BYE! 😀

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 10!

Tomorrow. Tomorrow is Christmas. WE ARE ONE DAY AWAY!

Last year, on the final day of Blogmas, I did a Christmas tag, so I thought it’d be fun to do another this year! I’ve picked a tag with quite a lot of questions, so I’ll get started quickly!

Favourite Christmas Movie?

Elf. By so far. It’s been up there for years by now, although I haven’t actually watched it yet this year – or many other Christmas movies for that matter!

Are you on the naughty list or the nice list?

I like to think I’ve been good this year? But I sure as hell know that voice we all have in our heads has said some pretty bad stuff! 😉

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

This was one the tag last year, and was pretty complicated to answer. Here goes: I’ve had snow on the ground on Christmas before, but never snow falling from the sky. Would you count that as a White Christmas?

Do you start your Christmas Shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

Since I don’t have many people to buy for, I start pretty late!

If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

So, I’m not sure if this means to star in a movie, or to live in a movie universe… I’ll go for both. If I could star in one Christmas movie it would probably be Elf, since it’s so freaking hilarious and I’d love to just be able to say I was in my favourite Christmas movie. If I could live in any Christmas movie universe, I’d probably go for The Muppets Christmas Carol, because I really would love to see what a Muppet-Me would look like!

Name all of Santa’s reindeer

This is one of my most proud Christmas-related talents, as Britt found out during a Christmas quiz in school this week. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph!

Where does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

We have two Christmas trees, because we’re greedy. The biggest, and I guess you could say main Christmas tree is in our front window, in the living room. Everyone decorates that one together. The other is smaller, and in the conservatory. Usually just my dad decorates that to save time.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

They’re both fake, but they look pretty realistic for fake trees! 😀

Peeking at gifts or be surprised?

No peeking whatsoever! I’m a firm believer that presents should be a surprise, unless you helped to choose, which I also don’t like, but have had to do this year. 😦

If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone, who would it be?

Hahaha. Oh there are so many! Celebrity-wise, I have a newfound love for young James Franco, especially in Spider-Man! *swoons* And then there’s others, like Douglas Booth, who I’ve had a minor celebrity crush on for verging on two years. If I’m going for more realistic, then Flynn. Or the animated Flynn Rider; honestly, I wouldn’t be complaining! 😀

Does your family have a special holiday recipe you like to help make?

Hah. It’s probably best if I stay several metres away from all cooking appliances! But my dad usually makes homemade stuffing for the whole family. And on Boxing Day he makes Cinnamon rolls!

Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m pretty good, if you ask me! 😉

Have you ever gone Christmas carolling?

Nope; I can’t sing to save my life.

What tops your tree?

Usually, it’s a star, but this year we bought an angel.

Do you make new year’s resolutions? Do you keep them?

I don’t usually, but last year I promised to drink more water, and I have been doing all year, so I guess if I can find something else that’ll help me like that then why not do another this year?

Favourite Christmas song this year?

The glee version of Baby it’s Cold Outside! Ashley and I have been singing it all week! 😀

You have been granted one Christmas wish… what will it be?

There are a bunch of materialistic and selfish things I could say, but honestly, I just hope that 2017 will be a great year for us all, especially after some of the bad stuff that’s gone on in 2016! ❤

And that’s all of the questions!

Happy Blogmas!

P.S. See you on Christmas! 😉

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Day 9 of Blogmas!

I’m actually quite impressed with how I’ve blogged for almost ten days straight, especially with how absent I’ve been over the last two months! 😀

For today’s Blogmas post, we’re going a little deep. How, you might ask? Well, we’re getting a submarine and th- metaphorial deep. I thought it would be a fun idea to write a Christmas card to myself in 2017. As I’ve learned, a lot can happen, and people can change a lot in the space of a year, so it might feel like a completely different person is writing this time next year!

So today, I’ll be sharing with you, exactly what I wrote, excluding names that are un-coded.

Hi, 2017 Jatm.

As I write this, it’s Friday 23rd December 2016. Since you’re pretty much done with 2017, I just wanted to ask some questions.

How is it being Year 11? Do you miss Pan and *codename of a guy Penny used to like*? Did you just have mocks? How were they? Are you still friends with all my friends?

How was Shawn Mendes? Did you cry?

How was Italy? Was Flynn there? Do you still even like him? Have you spoken to him? ARE YOU DATING?

Is the WhatsApp chat still going strong? Texting everyday?

How many new inside jokes do we have?

Did Donald Trump ruin the world?

Are Fifth Harmony still going strong without Camila?

*insert a bunch of squad ship names*

How’s ze blog?

So… I guess I’ll be done here.

SEE YOU IN 2017!

-2016 Jatm ❤

P.S. Good luck with GCSEs… You got this.

And that’s some of the things I wanted to know about 2017. I really suggest doing this for yourself, since it seems like it’ll be a good way to look back on the year when the time comes! Let me know if you join in, and give us a little snippet of what you wrote! 😀

Happy Blogmas!

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 8!

My school has officially closed for Christmas, as of 12:20 (Exactly one hour ago as I write this sentence). That means I have round about two weeks without having to see any teachers, unless I happen to run into the biggest inside joke we have like last October. To make those next two weeks a little more productive, I thought I’d make a to-do list, for things I just need to get done.

Tidy My Desk

Unlike the majority of teenagers, my room doesn’t get too messy, but my desk is a whole other story. I did a post, probably about a year ago, where I went through everything I found on it after not having tidied it in a good while. I won’t be doing another of those, but I really do need to tidy up a bit since it’s definitely getting a little too cluttered!

Typically, I have an R.E. exam on the Tuesday I go back to school, which does mean that I have to revise over the holidays. It shouldn’t take too much time, like geography, although there are quite a lot of points to memorise.

Eat a Lot of Chocolate

With it being the last day of school, I’ve eaten a truckload of sweets and chocolate already, from prizes, presents and just general friend feasts (on the sweets, not my friends). HOWEVER, I still have a bunch of chocolates left, including a huge Mint Aero bar, a Twix, a big Winter Edition Dairy Milk bar, several candy canes and a Kinder Bueno (LOVE). And that’s not counting what I’ll get at Christmas!

Chat With Friends

Frankly, I’m not the biggest socialite, but I do believe that maintaining contact with friends is super important when you’re on school breaks. There’s no doubt I’ll be messaging Penny, Brit and Hayley via WhatsApp every single day, but I’m hoping to meet up in person too!

Watch the New Sherlock

Any Sherlock fan will know that season 4 starts on New Year’s Day. I’d be lying if I said I was more excited for Christmas. It’s quite literally been about 3 years since the last episode, excluding last year’s special: The Abominable Bride (which was pretty scary if you ask me) and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED for the new season to begin! Praying for Sherlolly! 😀

And those are some of the things I’ll be up to during the holidays! What do you plan on doing?

Happy Blogmas!

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to day 7 of Blogmas!

We’re less than 5 days to go, and I’m still in school! Holidays start after half a day in tomorrow, though!

What’s Christmas without cookies? Unless you’re some sort of cookie-phobe or a little bit of a Scrooge (there’s literally one in my year), then you’ll understand how central cookies are to the entire Christmas season. Hence why I’ve done this post.

Today, dear readers, I will share with you some of the best cookie recipes (I looked at the reviews, I’m sorry) on the internet. Hopefully, there’ll be a variety of difficulties and styles, if you can have styles of cookies?

  1. Mini Cinnamon Roll Cookies (Sounds heavenly, I know)
  2. Chocolate-Mint Cookies
  3. Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies
  4. Spiced Shortbread
  5. White Chocolate and Peppermint Blondies
  6. Red Velvet Snowballs
  7. Melting Snowman Biscuits
  8. Sparkling Vanilla Cookies
  9. Rudolph Shortbread
  10. Pistachio and Cranberry Cookies

And that’s a few cookie recipes to get you through this Christmas! What are some of your favourties? Let me know if you use any of these! 😀

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 6!

5 MORE DAYS! We’re so close I can almost hear paper tearing and smell the dinner cooking! Today I thought I’d have a little chat about some of the things my family have done for quite a few years, and share what sort of traditions we have.

Before Christmas

So, during Advent, there’s a bunch of generic Christmas stuff that goes on, like putting up the decorations (which usually happens on my mum’s birthday weekend) and counting down with chocolate advent calendars. But then there’s more oddball stuff like the Christmas candle. We have a candle that we’ve bought every year for the last four (ish?) years, that literally smells like heaven. It’s a Glade Apple and Cinnamon one, and it’s easily one of my favourite scents I’ve ever smelled.

Combined with that, my mum likes to buy huge boxes of nice biscuits, and we usually eat those before Christmas. Except that one time Dakota (my big sister) dropped the entire box onto the floor, smashing each and every biscuit into tiny crumbs… yeah – that happened. I’m guessing you can imagine how catastrophic it was.

There’s also the dreaded Christmas photo, where me and all six of my other siblings have to stand in front of the Christmas tree to have a group photo, that gets sent to just about everyone in the family. As if that isn’t bad enough, we all have to wear Christmas jumpers, which I somehow got out of for the last few years, but not this time… :/

On Christmas

If you have any younger siblings, or remember Christmases when you were a bit younger, you’ll know that sleep means literally nothing to kids under about 11. Without fail, at 3am every Christmas morning, there is a kid up. But then that kid decides to go wake up the other kids, and then there’s 5 kids running around upstairs at THREE IN THE  FREAKING MORNING. Look, I’m as big a fan of Christmas as most people are (I bloody love it) but nothing will make me happily get out of bed that early.

By about 6am, we’re all allowed downstairs, which is still a little too early if you ask me, but hey – it’s not 3am. We walk down the stairs in age order (cringey, I know), meaning that Dakota and I are stuck at the back, and can’t see what the other siblings are gawping at on their way down.

For Christmas breakfast, we usually have my dad’s own version of Egg McMuffins, which is basically the same as the McDonald’s ones. Until about 3pm, we have the day to do whatever we want, within the house. At 3pm, though, we usually start Christmas dinner – the usual: turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets (my all-time favourite part of the dinner). You get the idea.

At around 6pm, we head off to my Grandma and Grandad’s house, where we meet the cousins, aunties and uncles, as well as Grandma and Grandad, of course. We exchange gifts and lurk around for a bit. After then it’s home time, where we’ll relax until we head off to bed.

That’s what usually happens before and on Christmas! What are some of your family traditions?

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Day 5 of Blogmas!

Less than a week to go; we’re really getting close now! As it’s round about the time that people are frantically running around shop after shop, trying to find the last gifts for family and friends, I thought I’d give you a little hand – with the friends part, anyway.

Having to buy Christmas presents for my own friends, I know how awkward it is when you really have no clue whatsoever what to buy, and how nerve-wracking it can be. For this post, though, I shall step in as your Fairy Godmother, and hopefully give you a few ideas to use! 😀

Selection Boxes

I get how easy it is to overlook the most simple gift ideas when you’re speed-walking around a shop with no idea what to pick up, but selection boxes are literally presents (already made) and are bound to be in countless shops nearby. Who doesn’t love chocolate?

Their Favourite PopTarts

PopTarts: Gods of the breakfast world. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone that doesn’t love them, and if you’re in the UK, where not all the shops sell them, it’s even better, since it’s more of a surprise. Honestly, I’d be more than happy if someone bought me a box of PopTarts for Christmas, so that’s exactly what I’ve done – for my friends, not for me.

Tiny Christmas Decor

Since it’s Christmas, why not splurge on something that’s actually Christmassy? For instance, last year, I bought little lava lamp (kind of?) things with a snowman and a lot of glitter inside. This year, I bought some jar/mug things with a straw coming through a screw-on lid. If your friends are very pinterest-esque, and like to take photos of things, these would be a great idea!

Something Arty

If you really are running behind, and don’t have much time to head out to the shops, but you do have some spare artsy skills that can be put to good use, then grab some paper, a pencil and make something! It could be a picture, painting, or a comic strip of something funny that happened between you. You could use technology to make it, or do it by hand. Whatever floats your goat (yes I said goat).

Personalised T-Shirts

This one’s super easy if you have a little longer to spare, or if you can get it shipped within the timespace you have left, as most of these will have to be ordered online. If your friend has a crazy celebrity crush, you could buy a Mrs *insert celebrity’s name here* shirt, or if you have an inside joke/codename you could use that!

That’s everything I thought of for todays blogmas! Hopefully it was helpful to somebody out there!

Happy Blogmas!

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 4!

There’s only a week to go! Almost there! Christmas is never complete without Christmas movies, so let’s get into some of my favourites!

As overplayed as this film may be, it never fails to liven up the Christmas mood. Not to mention, the entire time I imagine Sherlock walking in to see John (Mr Maddens) dancing with a bunch of 7 year olds. 😀

Without a doubt, Elf is my all-time favourite Christmas movie, and if anything can ever overtake it… let’s just say I’d be very impressed! Will Ferrel is absolutely hilarious, and paired with Zooey Deschanel is just perfect!

The Holiday

I watched this for the first time last year, and it’s safe to say that it’s easily my second favourite Christmas movie. I’m an absolute sucker for romance, and Christmas is by far my favourite season. Put them together, and that’s a pretty good movie if you ask me! 😀

Home Alone

Classic. I don’t think there’s been a single year that my family hasn’t all sat together to watch Home Alone. Kevin is adorable, and the whole plot is so cleverly planned out. Not to mention, the wincing and cringing throughout the whole thing! 😀

Love Actually

I haven’t ever seen this before, but since I plan on watching it in the next few days, so I thought I’d let you know that it’s on my Christmas Movie List this year. I’ll update once I’ve watched it, and say what I thought via my twitter! It seems to be about romance, but that’s really all I know so far.

The Santa Clause

Being one of my dad’s favourite Christmas movies, we watch this one without fail almost every year. Charlie is so freaking cute, and the plot is so entertaining!

If you haven’t seen any of those films, I really would recommend checking them out, and if there’s any of your favourites that I missed, make sure to let me know in the comments! 😀

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to day 2 of Blogmas! 😀

With Christmas being such a happy, jolly time of year, it’s a crime to go without having a few favourite songs each year. Today, I thought we could share some of our favourites this year (obviously the you being in the comments). I’ll warn you: many of them will more than likely be glee covers but that’s okay, right? Glee’s amazing I can’t just blank it out!

  1. White Christmas – Damian McGinty
  2. Fairytale of New York – The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl (CLASSIC)
  3. All I Want for Christmas is You – Fifth Harmony
  4. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – The Vamps
  5. Baby It’s Cold Outside – Glee (talk about dreamy)
  6. It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas – Michael Bublé
  7. Found Each Other – Cameron Mitchell
  8. Santa Tell Me – Ariana Grande
  9. Feliz Navidad – Glee
  10. Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin’ Stephens (could I not include this one?)
  11. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Michael Bublé
  12. Santa Baby – Taylor Swift
  13. Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Glee (never fails to be my Christmas jam)
  14. Last Christmas – Taylor Swift (cover version but so are most of these!)

And those are some of my favourites this year! What about you?
