BLOLIDAYS #2 – 7 Summer Activities

Hello and welcome to the second Blolidays post of the series! We’re two weeks into the holidays now, and about to start the third week. If you’ve got to the point where you and your friends want to meet up, but have zero clue what to do, then this post should help! I’ll put together some of the ideas my friends and I have for days out (or in) and hopefully you’ll take some inspiration!

Theme Parks

While it does involve spending money, riding rollercoasters is such a fun way to hang out with friends! One of my favourites is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, but Alton Towers comes at a close second! It’s important to consider when you’re going; you wouldn’t want to go when it’s raining (the rides might be closed) but on super hot days, the queues are ridiculously long! Settle for a happy medium!

Country Park Walks

For a free outing, you could take your friends out to the countryside. It could be a woods, or a park near where you live. Dogs are a lot of fun to bring along, and if any of your friends are aspiring photographers, it’s a great opportunity to snap some shots of the natural world! And there’s no money involved – Bonus!

Stationery Shopping

Maybe the new school year is the last thing you want to be thinking about in your time off, and if so, this one probably isn’t for you. For any of my fellow dorky friends who love having new notepads, stacks of sticky notes, freshly sharpened pencils, and rulers that are still in good shape, this one is for you! Take a trip out into town and stock up on everything you need for the 2017/2018 school year!

Movie and Takeaway Day

Who doesn’t love a good movie? I know my friends will definitely be heading over to Regina’s house at some point and using Netflix probably all day… We might even order a sneaky Domino’s takeaway – the chocolate brownies are to die for.

Cards Against Humanity

If you’ve never played Cards Against Humanity, or heard of it – let me enlighten you. In a nutshell, you have white cards and black cards: the black cards have either a question or a sentence with blank spaces, and the white cards have the answers. Each player is given ten white cards, and has to fill in the blanks on a black card, with their own white cards. Some of them get super offensive, dirty, rude and just in general, ridiculously funny. It’s bound to leave you in heaps of giggles, and is a great way to pass a rainy day!

Baking

Any cookery prodigies in your friendship group? You could head over to their house with a few others (the more the merrier) and have a day of baking cakes, pies, muffins, and whatever else your stomach is grumbling for. Feast!

Go to the Beach

It’s summer! When the weather gets hotter and the sun makes an appearance, grab your towels and head down to the seaside! Grab an ice-cream or a cone of fish and chips and press play on your beach vibes playlist, or splash around in the water if you’re feeling adventurous!

And those are some of the things I plan to do this holidays! Let me know what you and your friends will be getting up to! 😀

BLOLIDAYS #1 – Summer 2017 Playlist

HELLO AND WELCOME TO MY ANNUAL SERIES – BLOLIDAYS.

Every week (although I’ve missed two Saturdays so this is me making up for that) in the 6 week school holidays, I’ll have a summery post, flying into the world wide web, for you all to read! Summer used to be one of my least favourite seasons, because I don’t really enjoy the feeling of sweating my entire face of makeup off, and probably the skin underneath, leaving me sitting in a pool of wet clothes and a messy face. However, since then, I’ve grown to love it! But what’s a great season with great outings without an even greater playlist?

I present to you…

AWKWARDSAURUS SUMMER 2017 PLAYLIST:

1. Down – Fifth Harmony (are you surprised I kicked it off with my favourite ladies on the planet? I’m not!)

2. Crying in the Club – Camila Cabello (also one of my favourite ladies who is killing it at the moment!)

3. Most Girls – Hailee Steinfeld

4. Anything’s Possible – Lea Michele

5. LA Devotee – Panic! At The Disco

6. The Life – Fifth Harmony

7. Unforgettable – French Montana ft. Swae Lee

2 YEAR BLOGIVERSARY

HELLO HELLO HELLO

POP THE CHAMPAGNE AND BLOW UP THE BALLOONS – IT’S MY BLOGIVERSARY.

Maybe without the champagne, though, since I’m 15. . 🙂

2 years ago today, I did a post called “Hello World“, under the name Just Average Teen Me. I know, the name is hella corny, and still to this day makes me want to curl up into a ball and be buried in a hole. Good thing I changed it then, I guess?

Anyways, after making my blog, at the age of 13, I thought it’d be a place where I had posts to write constantly, and ideas flowing heavier than Niagara Falls. If you’ve been here recently (and if any of you are actually left?) you’ll know I’m very very unorganised here… I’m crap at remembering to post, let alone finding the ideas, to put it frankly.

The first year or so, I had a tight schedule of when to post and when not to post, and sometimes that meant being up at 10:30pm (I was 13 okay that was late for a school-night) writing the most rushed and un-related-to-my-life posts I’ve ever seen. Hopefully, you’ll agree I’m past that now, and I try to blog about things that actually hold some shape or form of meaning to what’s going on with me? By the start of 2017, I’d changed my blogging alias to Awkwardsaurus. It fits me a million times better, and makes me want to cry of cringe slightly less.

I mentioned this last year, and I’ll mention it again. After starting my blog, I experienced a few panic attacks: the first in October, and a few others up until now. Without people to talk to, I wouldn’t have recovered as smoothly as I did. I took to WordPress, and told you all how I felt, what caused it, and the fears I had of something like it happening again. I couldn’t talk to anyone else about it, because I felt like they’d just brush it off and say it was nerves (a lot of people really don’t take mental health seriously). You listened, and you helped me. If you hadn’t, I’d have had all that cooped up inside, and it probably would have made my situation even worse.

Blogging has been useful to me, for all the reasons I never thought it would. I thought it’d be easy to gain readers, and have lots of comments as well as likes, but it’s more than that. When I started blogging, I had crazy issues with my self-confidence. I was terrified to even talk to teachers, ordering food or drink from a barista made me shake, and I was constantly convinced that my friends didn’t like me (kind of happened BUT THAT’S BESIDES THE POINT). Obviously, there are a bunch of other factors that played into it, but since then (2015, oh my god that sounds like so long ago) I’ve flourished into a more confident, and happier version of who I was then. Sure, standing in front of the school year still makes me blush and tremble, but I’ve started doing things for me, that I wouldn’t have been able to do before. I’ve made more friends. thanks to not being scared to go and talk to people, I’ve bought things I wouldn’t have before (menstrual cup, anyone?) and I’ve switched to a skirt for school.

If you’re thinking about starting a blog, and you haven’t done already, I can’t stress how much I think you should. Even if just a small part of you thinks it’d be fun, or a way to pass the summer (that’s why I set up this one), just go for it, set up a website here on WordPress, and I’ll be more than happy to help you out!

Anyways, thanks to everyone who’s been stuck in this for the long-haul, and to new readers, too. I know, I’m a pain to keep up with but it means the world to me.

Until next time

MONTHLY LOOK-AHEAD: JULY 2017

HELLO HELLO HELLO

I know, we’re three days into July already but EXCUSE MY LATENESS AND LET’S GET ONTO IT BECAUSE JULY IS USUALLY HELLA EVENTFUL.

Travel Day

Every year in July, my school does a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for a day, and we can go around in our own friendship groups, wear our own clothes, and basically do whatever we want. You might remember that there was an extremely attractive photographer when I went last July, and then the following November. But hey, Travel Day is always one of the best days, and it’s actually my last Travel Day since next year I’ll be on study leave!

Sponsored Walk

Another annual event at my school is the sponsored walk: everyone’s families pitch in to sponsor their kids in a walk around the countryside near school. It gets us out of an afternoon of lessons, and it’s a great time to chill out and chat to your friends! Plus, we’ll be in our own clothes!

Summer Holidays

On July 21st (it’s quite late this year) our school will break up for the summer. Year 10 will be over. I’ll probably do a big post on it like I think I did last year? But as much as I’ll miss the people I usually see everyday, it’ll be great to sleep in every morning!

My Blogiversary

July 27th is the day I created my blog. Two whole years ago! At the time, I went by Just Average Teen Me, which I ended up switching for my current name earlier in the year. A Blogiversary is a great way to look back on what’s happened in the span of a year, and this year has definitely had a lot going on!

The Great Gatsby

A few weeks ago, I watched the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and it quickly became one of my favourites. Since then, I’d been set on getting my hands on the book, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Last Saturday, I managed to find it in WH Smith’s (thank you WH Smith’s, you beat Waterstones this time) for £6.99 and I’m currently 3 chapters in. I’m loving it so far and I can’t wait to read the rest!

Everything Everything

I know, the film came out sometime last month I think, but I haven’t managed to get out and see I yet. As the hopeless romantic that I am, I absolutely love romance movies. They melt my heart, and usually end in a good few tears. This month, I plan to watch it, and I’ll let you know what i think!

And those are the main things in store for this month! See you around 🙂

An Optimist Amongst Pessimists

Hey… I’m writing this super late, since it’s actually past midnight here in the UK.
Within my friendship group, there’s been all sorts of dramas in the last week, and I’ll definitely get another post up soon to explain it all and whatnot, but for now, it’s probably useful to know that there’s been a slight fall out between two halves of our group.

SO, naturally, the majority of our group are pretty bummed about it. As I’ll explain in the next post, I’m not so much affected since I managed to KEEP MY HEAD OUT OF THE DRAMA (apologies, ahem.) but the rest of the girls in our group seem to have took a big hit from it.

Bare in mind, this all began last Saturday, and escalated rapidly on Wednesday. Friday (although now it’s Saturday) rolled around and my friends are being painfully pessimistic.

Before I get into the details, I’ll mention that I’m an optimist. I’m a positive thinker, I firmly believe that everything happens with purpose, that nothing is entirely bad and that everything will turn out good in the end.

My friends however, are quite the opposite. They seem to let one negative thing outrule the entire year of good memories we’ve had in Year 10, saying that “Life is so shit” and “I thought this year would be better”, to which I replied saying that life isn’t bad, and that they were just ignoring all the good that had happened this year.

Just because I don’t outwardly show sadness or pain in person or through dramatic paragraphs, doesn’t mean I don’t ever feel it, so what Britt replied tugged my nerves a little. She’d said that my life is all fine and happy, seemingly implying that everything to happen for me is all sunshine and rainbows. Any frequent reader of this blog will fully understand that that’s not the case. The difference is, as an overall, I try to focus on the things that make me happy. You’ll know that this year I’ve dealt with a lot, including the separation of our friendship group recently.

“Nothing bad has happened to you this year”. To assume that someone has it perfectly, is a hundred percent unreasonable, if you ask me. So by this point, I was getting a little annoyed and ended up saying “JUST FOCUS ON THE GOOD JESUS WHERE IS YOUR OPTIMISM?”. She replied with “What good?”.

I understand that people might have stuff going on that we don’t know about, and that it’s perfectly reasonable to feel down from time to time (as we all do), but to blatantly ignore all the times you’ve laughed until you couldn’t breathe, smiled so hard your jaw hurt and physically not been able to hold back from making a little inside joke or smirk is just unfair. Unfair on all the people that would then feel as if they aren’t good enough for you. If nothing is good, then surely that means the friendships aren’t good either?

Being a positive person, surrounded by so much negativity is getting to me a little, and I’m feeling slightly squashed so I needed to have a little rant on here.

Thank you for listening, and if anyone is hurt by anything I’ve said, I’m sorry.

Monthly Look-Ahead: MARCH 2017

BACK AGAIN HEY THERE

It’s been way too long since I did a Look-Ahead post, and I really do love writing them, so since it’s the first day of March I thought I’d get back into it!

Wow that was a pretty long sentence.

Anyways.

There’s a good bit to look forward to this month, so let’s get right into it, shall we?

Lenten Cake Stall

As you may already know, today is the first day of Lent (the buildup to Easter). I go to a Catholic school, because my family are Catholic, so our school does a lot of fundraising for charities. One of those things happens to be a lot of cake stalls. Since Year 7 (first year of high school) I’ve been a faithful customer to the graphics teacher’s tuck shop. That makes this year the fourth year of buying dozens of blueberry muffins over Lent. I love blueberry muffins, so what’s not to be excited for?

My Birthday

Another year has rolled around, and my birthday is just over a week away. I’ll be 15 on March 9th, which is next Thursday. Thankfully, it’s the one day of the week that I don’t have English. Actually, I’d say it’s one of my favourite days, lesson-wise! And then a few days later it’s Ashley’s birthday!

Mock Exams

Sure I’m not too thrilled by the prospect of sitting in an exam hall for hours taking exams but it gets me out of some lessons, which could be a bonus? Plus, I guess you could say it’s my only time to have lessons with Flynn, since we’ll all be in the hall at the same time! 😉

Passport Arrivals

You might remember that I’m going to Italy in October as a Geography school trip to the Bay of Naples (Pompeii and all that jazz). After the third time of sending passport forms off, we finally got a text to say that it had been posted and was on the way back. The first time, they needed proof that my new photo was still me, and the second time, the signatures weren’t right. Quite the hassle, but now that we’re finally there I’m just quite excited to have a passport for the first time in 10 years.

The Space Between Us

On February 10th (not sure why I remembered the exact date, but it’d be nice if I could remember my French that well), The Space Between Us was released in the UK. It’s a romance film about a boy who moved to Earth from Mars to be with a girl. I’m a huge sucker for romance movies and I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten around to seeing it, but I plan on doing in the next month!

Fixed Heating?

Since Saturday, the boiler in my house has broken, so we have no radiator heat, no hot water, and I’m pretty dang cold. I’ve been sat under several blankets the majority of the time, since it’s currently the coldest it’s been in a few weeks here in the UK. Tomorrow, though, there’s someone coming to take a look at it to see if they can fix it. Fingers crossed!

That’s everything (I think?) for March 2017!

BYEEEE 😛

P.S. Let me know some of your favourite romance films!

See You Next Year, Blogmas + What I Got For Christmas 2016

Hi,

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Christmas Day has passed, which is obviously a little heartbreaking, but it also means that Blogmas has come to a close too. I really enjoyed getting into the festive spirit here on the blog, and hopefully, you all enjoyed reading them just as much! Thanks a bunch for being supportive of the posts!

So, onto today’s post. Since Christmas was just two days ago, I thought I’d share some of the things I got for Christmas. It might strike you that I’m not the most stereotypical teenage girl (if you hadn’t already got that), so I won’t be rambling about eye-shadow palettes and fancy new shoes.

Harry Potter Trivial Pursuit

Although my Harry Potter obsession has died down a slight bit over the last seven years, I still do, and will always love it. I don’t think there’s been a year since my love for the stories began that I haven’t had something related to Harry Potter for Christmas. Anyways, I’m super excited to play this, especially with Rachel, who’s the biggest Hazza P. fan I know.

A Box of ‘Girly’ Stuff

So, I think this is the point where my mum has no idea what to buy, so she just throws some bits and pieces into a tin. Inside was some pocket tissues, nail polish, ‘spot zapping gel’, stick concealer and a peel-off Cucumber face mask (which I have used before, and I absolutely loooooove).

Moto E3

My phone was slowly dying, and the contract ended this Christmas anyway, so I kind of knew that I’d be getting this phone, and had chosen it between the two options I had. It’s the third generation of the previous phone I had, which was the first generation, and there’s definitely been some improvements! It also came with some big, over-ear headphones which is nice! 😀

OUAT Season 5 DVD

You’ll more than likely know that I’m a huge fan of OUAT (Once Upon A Time), and I currently have all of the seasons available on DVD. If you have spare time over the holidays, I definitely recommend checking it out! 😉

Infinity Rises and Infinity Reborn – S.Harrison

In March, I was given the first book of the Infinity trilogy for my birthday. The plot had me hooked throughout, and I contemplated buying the next books with my own money, which is pretty big since I hate spending it unless I need to. I ended up waiting until Christmas, and I’m so freaking excited to read the last two books!

Fifth Harmony 7/27 UK Tour Poster

I’m not sure this counts as a poster, since it’s cardboard, but it has a picture of the 7/27 album cover, with all of the UK tour dates beneath, the whole thing surrounded by a thick black border. It’s pretty niiiiice, and I just need to put it up on my wall!

A Truckload of Chocolate

Over the entire Christmas holidays, I’ve been given insane amounts of chocolate, and I worked out yesterday, that in the last 4 days, I’ve eaten over 3000 calories of just Lindt Lindors, excluding any other chocolate! Talk about food coma! 😀

Mermaid Tail Blanket

You might remember that this was on my Christmas list this year. It’s basically a woolly blanket in the shape of a mermaid tail, so you put your legs inside, and feel like a mermaid. Mine is a blue/turquoise colour with hints of green, white and orange, and it’s super pretty! 😀

LOTS OF PYJAMAS

As Grandma always does, she bought us a few sets of pyjamas for the next year. I will admit, she allowed us to choose them ourselves, so I went to Primark with two of my sisters (one older and one younger) and picked out three sets. I prefer it that way because I knew that I’d love them! ❤

That’s most of it! What did you get for Christmas?

BYE! 😀

BLOGMAS DAY 10 | CHRISTMAS TAG

Hi,

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 10!

**********************************************

1 DAY UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

**********************************************

Tomorrow. Tomorrow is Christmas. WE ARE ONE DAY AWAY!

Last year, on the final day of Blogmas, I did a Christmas tag, so I thought it’d be fun to do another this year! I’ve picked a tag with quite a lot of questions, so I’ll get started quickly!

Favourite Christmas Movie?

Elf. By so far. It’s been up there for years by now, although I haven’t actually watched it yet this year – or many other Christmas movies for that matter!

Are you on the naughty list or the nice list?

I like to think I’ve been good this year? But I sure as hell know that voice we all have in our heads has said some pretty bad stuff! 😉

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

This was one the tag last year, and was pretty complicated to answer. Here goes: I’ve had snow on the ground on Christmas before, but never snow falling from the sky. Would you count that as a White Christmas?

Do you start your Christmas Shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

Since I don’t have many people to buy for, I start pretty late!

If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

So, I’m not sure if this means to star in a movie, or to live in a movie universe… I’ll go for both. If I could star in one Christmas movie it would probably be Elf, since it’s so freaking hilarious and I’d love to just be able to say I was in my favourite Christmas movie. If I could live in any Christmas movie universe, I’d probably go for The Muppets Christmas Carol, because I really would love to see what a Muppet-Me would look like!

Name all of Santa’s reindeer

This is one of my most proud Christmas-related talents, as Britt found out during a Christmas quiz in school this week. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph!

Where does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

We have two Christmas trees, because we’re greedy. The biggest, and I guess you could say main Christmas tree is in our front window, in the living room. Everyone decorates that one together. The other is smaller, and in the conservatory. Usually just my dad decorates that to save time.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

They’re both fake, but they look pretty realistic for fake trees! 😀

Peeking at gifts or be surprised?

No peeking whatsoever! I’m a firm believer that presents should be a surprise, unless you helped to choose, which I also don’t like, but have had to do this year. 😦

If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone, who would it be?

Hahaha. Oh there are so many! Celebrity-wise, I have a newfound love for young James Franco, especially in Spider-Man! *swoons* And then there’s others, like Douglas Booth, who I’ve had a minor celebrity crush on for verging on two years. If I’m going for more realistic, then Flynn. Or the animated Flynn Rider; honestly, I wouldn’t be complaining! 😀

Does your family have a special holiday recipe you like to help make?

Hah. It’s probably best if I stay several metres away from all cooking appliances! But my dad usually makes homemade stuffing for the whole family. And on Boxing Day he makes Cinnamon rolls!

Are you a pro-present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I’m pretty good, if you ask me! 😉

Have you ever gone Christmas carolling?

Nope; I can’t sing to save my life.

What tops your tree?

Usually, it’s a star, but this year we bought an angel.

Do you make new year’s resolutions? Do you keep them?

I don’t usually, but last year I promised to drink more water, and I have been doing all year, so I guess if I can find something else that’ll help me like that then why not do another this year?

Favourite Christmas song this year?

The glee version of Baby it’s Cold Outside! Ashley and I have been singing it all week! 😀

You have been granted one Christmas wish… what will it be?

There are a bunch of materialistic and selfish things I could say, but honestly, I just hope that 2017 will be a great year for us all, especially after some of the bad stuff that’s gone on in 2016! ❤

And that’s all of the questions!

BLGOMAS DAY 7 | COOKIES GALORE

Hi,

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to day 7 of Blogmas!

**********************************************

4 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

**********************************************

We’re less than 5 days to go, and I’m still in school! Holidays start after half a day in tomorrow, though!

What’s Christmas without cookies? Unless you’re some sort of cookie-phobe or a little bit of a Scrooge (there’s literally one in my year), then you’ll understand how central cookies are to the entire Christmas season. Hence why I’ve done this post.

Today, dear readers, I will share with you some of the best cookie recipes (I looked at the reviews, I’m sorry) on the internet. Hopefully, there’ll be a variety of difficulties and styles, if you can have styles of cookies?

  1. Mini Cinnamon Roll Cookies (Sounds heavenly, I know)
  2. Chocolate-Mint Cookies
  3. Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies
  4. Spiced Shortbread
  5. White Chocolate and Peppermint Blondies
  6. Red Velvet Snowballs
  7. Melting Snowman Biscuits
  8. Sparkling Vanilla Cookies
  9. Rudolph Shortbread
  10. Pistachio and Cranberry Cookies

And that’s a few cookie recipes to get you through this Christmas! What are some of your favourties? Let me know if you use any of these! 😀

BLOGMAS DAY 6 | CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Hi,

I’m Just Average Teen Me. Welcome to Blogmas Day 6!

**********************************************

5 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

**********************************************

5 MORE DAYS! We’re so close I can almost hear paper tearing and smell the dinner cooking! Today I thought I’d have a little chat about some of the things my family have done for quite a few years, and share what sort of traditions we have.

Before Christmas

So, during Advent, there’s a bunch of generic Christmas stuff that goes on, like putting up the decorations (which usually happens on my mum’s birthday weekend) and counting down with chocolate advent calendars. But then there’s more oddball stuff like the Christmas candle. We have a candle that we’ve bought every year for the last four (ish?) years, that literally smells like heaven. It’s a Glade Apple and Cinnamon one, and it’s easily one of my favourite scents I’ve ever smelled.

Combined with that, my mum likes to buy huge boxes of nice biscuits, and we usually eat those before Christmas. Except that one time Dakota (my big sister) dropped the entire box onto the floor, smashing each and every biscuit into tiny crumbs… yeah – that happened. I’m guessing you can imagine how catastrophic it was.

There’s also the dreaded Christmas photo, where me and all six of my other siblings have to stand in front of the Christmas tree to have a group photo, that gets sent to just about everyone in the family. As if that isn’t bad enough, we all have to wear Christmas jumpers, which I somehow got out of for the last few years, but not this time… :/

On Christmas

If you have any younger siblings, or remember Christmases when you were a bit younger, you’ll know that sleep means literally nothing to kids under about 11. Without fail, at 3am every Christmas morning, there is a kid up. But then that kid decides to go wake up the other kids, and then there’s 5 kids running around upstairs at THREE IN THE  FREAKING MORNING. Look, I’m as big a fan of Christmas as most people are (I bloody love it) but nothing will make me happily get out of bed that early.

By about 6am, we’re all allowed downstairs, which is still a little too early if you ask me, but hey – it’s not 3am. We walk down the stairs in age order (cringey, I know), meaning that Dakota and I are stuck at the back, and can’t see what the other siblings are gawping at on their way down.

For Christmas breakfast, we usually have my dad’s own version of Egg McMuffins, which is basically the same as the McDonald’s ones. Until about 3pm, we have the day to do whatever we want, within the house. At 3pm, though, we usually start Christmas dinner – the usual: turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets (my all-time favourite part of the dinner). You get the idea.

At around 6pm, we head off to my Grandma and Grandad’s house, where we meet the cousins, aunties and uncles, as well as Grandma and Grandad, of course. We exchange gifts and lurk around for a bit. After then it’s home time, where we’ll relax until we head off to bed.

That’s what usually happens before and on Christmas! What are some of your family traditions?

Happy Blogmas!
